Equalities Mission Statement
At Cambridge Nursery Federation, we support the development of self and mutual respect and self-esteem in all children, staff, and the members of the community we serve.
Our mission is to:
- Provide equal access to high-quality early years education for all children
- Foster respect and understanding by teaching and modelling inclusive values
- Challenge discrimination and bias wherever it occurs
- Work in partnership with families and the wider community to ensure every child thrives
- Empower children to develop confidence, empathy, and a sense of belonging
Under the Equality Act 2010, there are nine protected characteristics, they are: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
See Equality Act 2010 : What do I need to know? for more information.
In addition, we aim to consider social circumstances.
We do not allow anyone to discriminate against others regarding these characteristics, and we actively challenge all forms of prejudice or discrimination
We are proud to have many different nationalities represented by families who use and work for the Cambridge Nursery Federation.
This key area is supported by our Equalities Named Coordinator (ENCO).
Our ENCO is responsible for ensuring that all cultures and faiths are visible across the Federation and are incorporated into the daily life of each nursery.
We do this through:
- Planning and creating learning opportunities that will close gaps in participation and involvement
- Balancing the indoor/outdoor curriculum
- Ensuring that both boys and girls access all areas of the curriculum
- Supporting Children with English as an additional Language (EAL) and Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to enable them to participate fully in the curriculum
- Enabling all staff to have training in equality and diversity issues. This will form part of the induction process. All Governors are encouraged to undertake available equalities training.
We celebrate different festivals and specifically invite visitors and parents to tell the children about their customs and beliefs.
